When I look out at the world, I see A LOT of sensitive souls navigating the day-to-day labyrinth of being alive in these times in the best way they know how. And – because I understand that I see the world a little differently than many – I can’t help but wonder if they see themselves in the same light. So I have to ask – Do you consider yourself a sensitive soul?
What is a sensitive soul?
Here’s what I’m thinking of when I say “sensitive soul” –
꩜ an empath, “highly sensitive person” (sometimes referred to as HSP), or someone who is aware that they have intuitive gifts (even if you haven’t yet admitted it out loud to anyone or possibly even to yourself – I see you 😉)
꩜ helpers, healers, teachers and guides on the journey of life (walking compassionately and lovingly with other souls requires a great deal of empathy, trust and connection to the heart)
꩜ a kind soul with a big heart who feels A LOT and experiences the world a little differently than others (when I was a kid, it felt like an assault on my senses to watch video montages of people falling in “funny” ways on America’s Funniest Home Videos; what others found humorous, I often had a visceral response to)
꩜ a person with an over-taxed nervous system who feels easily overwhelmed, often exhausted or routinely ready to flop on the couch and pull the covers over their head (and your companion animals 🐶🐈 are right there to help you ground and to comfort you when you do – they are energy regulating geniuses)
꩜ someone who says “yes” far more often than “no” b/c “keeping the peace” means smoothing the way for everyone else’s comfort and ease over their own (in no small part b/c when everyone else is peaceful and happy, it eases your discomfort a bit)
So dear soul, do you consider yourself a sensitive soul?
There are a lot of sensitive souls in my world
If you do, you’re in good company around here – there are A LOT of sensitive souls in my world. And many of the people who choose to work with me (and benefit most from our time together) are sensitive souls (even if they don’t fully claim it for themselves).
While they do not fit neatly into one particular mold and are not easily categorized, – some would call themselves empaths or highly sensitive people and some would not; some work as the helpers (and healers and teachers) of the world and some do not; some lead lives that are obviously highly ritualized and deeply spiritual and some lead more inwardly (or even unconsciously) ritualized and spiritual lives; some enjoy matcha lattes, kombucha and kale and some definitely do not – they share a desire to wake up each morning to a life that feels like it is more fully theirs and to find a new way of being with themselves and in the world – one in which …
✓ the flow, pace and content of their days more closely reflects who they are and what they love, value and hold dear
✓ there is ample space for them AND for them to be present for their people, their causes and the world at large
✓ they feel more at home in their skin, centered in themselves and at ease in their lives
✓ they feel like they belong – to themselves and to a community of like-hearted souls
I support sensitive souls like you
If you consider yourself a sensitive soul (or are beginning to wonder if you might be) and aren’t quite sure what to do with the information, I’d love to support you.
I specialize in supporting sensitive souls like you in finding your way of being at home with your sensitive nature so you are able to wield the gifts (always knowing exactly where the new art belongs in the room, where to place the vase of flowers for maximum enjoyment, which piece of jewelry to wear, what your bestie could use most when she’s feeling down) and weather the challenges with more peace, more joy and more ease – every single day.
Free resources for sensitive souls
Here are some free resources to get you started on the path of being more at home with your sensitive nature –
“Five Minutes of Anjali Mudra”
This is a 5-minute practice of sitting with yourself with your hands in a prayer position at heart’s center (called Anjali Mudra in the yoga tradition). A position of reverence and gratitude, Anjali Mudra invites us to turn our attention inward in quiet reflection.
“Energetic Boundary Awareness”
This is a movement practice to help you connect with your energetic boundaries so you can move through the world in greater awareness of where you end and the rest of the world begins (sensitive souls can find maintaining boundaries with others somewhat challenging; this practice helps with that)
“Mindful Minute: A Whole-hearted Check-in”
I recently shared a journal entry about starting each day with a whole-hearted check-in. This, like the Anjali Mudra practice above, is powerful as an opportunity to check-in with yourself – especially with your heart.
